Janet Hubert Clarifies Why Alfonso Ribeiro Wasn’t Apart of her Segment in ‘Fresh Prince’ Reunion
For the Culture, Will Smith orchestrated Fresh Prince Reunion after the show’s 30th anniversary. The Banks family has been brought back together one more time since the season finale of the popular show. Will Smith was joined by Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Alfonso Ribeiro as well as DJ Jazzy Jeff.
The cast looks back at the series and its cultural impact beyond the shows ending. Will Smith even sits down with Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Viv. Will and Janet buried the hatchet that once strained their relationship. She even made her return with the cast and even meeting Daphne Maxwell Reid for the first time. In the midst of this part of the reunion, fans noticed Alphonse Ribeiro was missing.
Will and Janet may have set aside their differences but fans were not convinced Alphonso had the same forgiving spirit. Before rumors began circulating Janet took to Twitter with a response.
Not only did Janet respond but Alphonse also made a statement via an interview saying;
“Unfortunately I had to go shoot that day. All of the social media content and the photographs were taken without me,” he explained. “I literally did my own photo shoot on the couch so they could put me in the group photo. The actual special was filmed in one day, but all the other stuff was done on the other days.”
